European World Cup of Pool Qualifying Event set for July in Austria

WITH THE 2011 WORLD CUP OF POOL slated for Tuesday 6th to 11th September in Manila, Matchroom Sport can announce that there will a qualifying event for pairs of players from nations not seeded into the main event.

Taking place on Sunday 10th July 2011 at the Sporthotel Alpina, Sankt Johann im Pongau, Austria, the event is open to any two player teams from countries not already selected. Chosen teams are Austria, Croatia, England, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Malta, Poland, Russia, Spain and Sweden.

All matches in the qualifying event are scotch doubles, winner breaks, races to 8. The format will be double elimination until the last four and then single elimination. There are two spots allocated for the main event.

2011 will be the third staging of the World Cup in Manila and with huge crowds throughout and every match of the tournament live on national TV, this must be an opportunity too good to miss. In addition, all players are guaranteed $1,500 to compete in the event.

More than one pair per nation can enter the competition but only one can qualify for the main event in Manila, and so far entries have been received from pairs representing Switzerland, Scotland, Slovenia and Norway.

The entry fee is €100 per pair which will be payable to organizers prior to the tournament.

NOTES: This is the 6th year of the PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool and its third running in the Philippines. Sporting a $250,000 prize-fund, it is one of the richest tournaments in the world.
