Kam thwarts Thammavong comeback to take Dishaw Custom Cues CNY Tour stop

Marco Kam took two out of three matches against Tee Thammavong to capture the top prize in the Dishaw Custom Cues Central New York (CNY) Tour stop on Saturday, July 9. The $200-added event drew 29 entrants to Camelot Billiards in Rochester, NY.

They met first among the winners' side final four, when Kam sent Thammavong west 7-4 to get into the hot seat match versus Paul Pensgen. Pensgen had sent Viet Nguyen to the one-loss side 7-3. Kam gained the hot seat with a strong 7-1 showing against Pensgen, and waited for Thammavong's return.

Thammavong's three-match, loss-side march back to the finals began against Mark Creamer, who'd shut out JB Brotherton and defeated Javier Arencibia 7-2 to reach him. Nguyen, in the meantime, faced Jim Behringer, who'd gotten by Sean Corcoran 7-2 and Andre Iannello 7-4. Thammavong defeated Creamer 7-2 to get into the quarterfinals against Behringer, who'd survived a double hill battle against Nguyen.

Thammavong then dropped Behringer into fourth place 7-5 and faced his final obstacle to a re-match against Kam - Pensgen in the semifinals.  He brushed Pensgen aside 7-3, and took the opening set of the true double elimination final against Kam 7-5. Tied at one match apiece now, Kam came to life and allowed Thammavong only two racks in the final match that earned him the event title.
