A field of 25 women gathered at Castle Billiards in East Rutherford on June 23rd to compete in the 6th stop of the NorthEastern Women’s Tour. Room owner Richie Sacco offered a WPBA player’s choice qualifier to the winner of the tournament. This was Castle’s second semi-pro/amateur only tournament event of this year.

On Sunday the winner’s bracket finals match was between tour veteran Kim Smith and a tour rookie, Liz Bernreuter. Smith would emerge victorious (7-2) and wait in the hot seat for her last opponent of the loser’s side sinals match between Bernreuter and Romana Dokovic. Kim started out on Saturday with a bye and subsequent wins over Megan Smith (7-2), Gina Kim (7-3), and Cynthia Hunsaker (7-0). Romana started off Saturday with a win over Ruby Alabama (7-1), then suffered an early defeat to Cynthia Hunsaker (7-5). Romana then plowed through the one-loss side with steady wins over AnaMarta Silva (7-2), Lara Rossignol (7-2), and Gina Kim (7-6). On Sunday she continued her path of destruction with wins over Julie Ha (7-3), Jennifer Barretta (7-) before disposing Bernreuter (7-2) to meet up with Kim in the finals. Congratulations to Liz for her highest finish on the tour in her first year of playing!

Romana jumped out to a 5-1 lead over Kim. As defensively as Kim tried to play, she could not stop Romana who proceeded to win the match 9-4. Congatulations to Romana as she won the WPBA Player’s Choice Qualifier!
