U.S. OPEN 14.1 Straight-Pool POCKET BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP

Reigning Champions continue run.

Oliver Ortmann is still alive in the tourney, but just barely.
Both reigning champions continued on their bids to defend their titles today, but it wasn't easy.

In the men's brackets, Champion Oliver Ortmann was matched up with "King" James Rempe on the Accu-Stats table. After a run of 129 balls by Ortmann (a new tourney high run at that time), Rempe ran to a score of 144 before shooting a safety. After a safety exchange and a scratch by Ortmann, Rempe found a shot in the rack and called it. An unfortunate kiss from another ball ruined the combo and left the wide open table to Ortmann who won the match 150-144.

The Women's Champion Shin-Mei Lu continued her run on the losers side by defeating Ewa Laurence in another close match 100-94.

Other matches saw Helena Thornfeldt defeat Ulrika Andersson 100-72, Dallas West defeat John Schmidt 150-148 and The Texas Tornado Vivian Villarrea defeat Jennifer Chen 100-53.
