REYES TAKES POOL LEAGUE CROWN

Efren Reyes 9 - 5 Steve Davis

Angeles City native Efren 'the Magician' Reyes won the Pokermillion.com World Pool League with a measured performance against Steve Davis at the University of Warsaw this evening by an emphatic 9 racks to 5.

Reyes, who had earlier overcome fellow countryman Francisco Bustamante in the semi-finals, put on a great performance in an arena without a spare seat and with 100 people standing in the aisles.

Davis, for his part stayed with Reyes for the early part of the game, even squaring the score at five racks apiece but a couple of missed long pots off the rail in the latter stages, gave the Magician the type of opportunities he does not waste.

Reyes moved in to an early 4-1 lead but nobody would have been foolish enough to write off Davis' chances. He got the game back to 4 - 3 and then 5 - 5 before Reyes put his foot down and drove home to victory.

Commented Davis, " I had an epic battle with Efren in Cardiff 18 months ago and that time I came out the winner but this time it was Efren's turn. He always had a little too much for me tonight and although I got close to him I couldn't quite bridge the gap and create a lead. I've had a wonderful time though and the crowds here have been really wonderful."

Reyes was his usual modest self, " I was lucky tonight. Steve made a couple of mistakes and left the balls out for me. I always like to play Steve because he is such a good player but I'm delighted to have won this tournament in front of such a great crowd."

Reyes $15,000 winner's cheque brought his earnings up to $180,000 in the last five days. Who says there's no money in pool?
