Last year's runner-up Francisco Bustamante (Philippines) got off to the best possible start as he overturned Earl 'the Pearl' Strickland by eight racks to two. Bustamante, 38, used his trade-mark high-powered break to secure the opening rack and then relied on some sloppy errors from Strickland to move into a 4 - 0 lead.

Earl pulled one back when Busta made his first miss of the match but it was one-way traffic from then on in as Django ran out an easy winner.

Commented Francisco," I felt good at the beginning of the match but Earl didn't play so well today. I got my break going though and I think I can trust my game. I'm playing Rico Diks tonight and a win should see me through. I'm building a new house in the Philippines so I need the money!"

Londoner Steve Knight's year long reign as World Pool League Champion looks to be over as he suffered his second consecutive defeat here at the University of Warsaw. Knight now needs mathematical miracles to keep his play-off hopes alive. Pool's man-of-the-moment Efren Reyes was his nemesis this time. Reyes with two wins from two starts is certain of a place in Sunday night's play-offs.

In the final match of the afternoon, reigning World Champion Mika Immonen sealed Knight's fate as well as Polish hope Radoslaw Babica's with a hard fought and at times scrappy victory. The win means that Immonen and Reyes move into tomorrow night's semi-finals and Knight and Babica scrap it out for the Group 2 wooden spoon,

The Pokermillion.com World Pool League features eight players in two groups of four competing in a League format for a US$50,000 prize-fund. The top two from each group go into Sunday night's semi-finals and final.
