2001 Pokermillion.com World Pool LeagueNeither player got into any kind of rhythm and the 25 minute opening rack was a portent of things to come. The young Polish player from Poznan has played some fluent pool in UK and European venues but felt the pressure in front of his home crowd. Commented Knight after the match; "It wasn't much of a show from both of us. I don't know why but I have really struggled out here. My best match was my first against Immonen which I narrowly lost, and after that the pressure was on. A draw was a fair result tonight but I've got to put this behind me and concentrate on the Mosconi Cup." Group 1 is still very much alive with Francisco Bustamante the only player definitely in tomorrow's semi-finals after a win against the unlucky Dutchman Rico Diks. A quality game saw Rico go into a 3-2 lead before a succession of unlucky rolls gave Django the opportunity to win five racks on the spin to take the match. Earlier Steve Davis and Earl Strickland put on a great show in their match, with Strickland making amends for his poor performance this afternoon with a game 6-4 win. With the arena 'standing room only', both players came in to a tumultuous reception. Romford Slim came out the traps quickest, moving into a 3-1 lead. Earl won the next three to make it 4-3 in his favour but Davis levelled it. However, Earl was too strong and took the last two racks and the match. Commented Davis; " It was a terrific match and I was a bit gutted to lose. I've still got a chance to get through though as have Rico and Earl." Results
G1 Earl Strickland (USA) 6 - 4 Steve Davis (Eng)
