2001 Pokermillion.com World Pool LeagueSteve Davis made it through to his first major televised pool final with a tremendous 7 - 4 win over reigning World Champion Mika Immonen at the University of Warsaw tonight. He now faces Efren Reyes in the race-to-nine final and a chance at the $15,000 winner's cheque. Despite the best efforts of Immonen, Davis was always in control and his smooth stroke never let him down. Wiley in defence and clinical in attack, Davis was also assisted by some bad luck on the part of Mika. Although the break-off shot has never been the strongest part of his pool game, Davis has developed an effective method of spreading the pack and he even made a 9-ball from the break. Immonen takes home a cheque for $7,500 while Steve is guaranteed $10,000. Commented Davis, " I played well and really enjoyed it out there. The crowd here is fantastic, I don't think I've ever played in front of such an enthusiastic audience. Mika had a bit of bad luck but that's what you sometimes get in 9-ball. I love playing Efren so hopefully it will be a classic for the crowd."
