L.E.A.N.I. SLATE DONATES $3,000 TO BILLIARDS FOR AMERICA

In a letter to Butch and Donny Olhausen (Olhausen Billiard Mfg., Inc.), Batti Garbarino of L.E.A.N.I. Slate writes, “To think of all the thousands upon thousands of innocent lives lost and forever changed on Sept. 11th, 2001 breaks our hearts. The sadness is almost unbearable. The only thing we can do in this situation is to give our full support to the American people to re-build their lives, jobs and to find those responsible who have caused this terrible evil action. We therefore donate a check of $3,000 for the BCA fundraising campaign, together with Olhausen, our best America friends, in sympathy with the American people."

This generous donation was made when L.E.A.N.I. learned of the 8’ Augusta table being donated by Olhausen for the Billiards for America Sweepstakes. Billiards for America events will take place in over 100 rooms throughout North America (see www.bca-pool.com/play for a complete list of event locations). Money raised at each event will be donated directly to various September 11 relief funds. Other companies such as McDermott Billiards and Jay Orner & Sons Billiard Company have donated products as prizes for local events or have sent monetary donations directly to organizations such as the American Red Cross.

Billiards for America has been coordinated by the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) in conjunction with the Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) and the American Poolplayers Association (APA).

Stephen Ducoff, executive director of the BCA reports that, “we’ve received a tremendous amount of support from manufacturers, retailers, room owners, players and the billiard media as we’ve come together as an industry to do what we can in response to the events of September 11th.”

The BCA will report through press releases and on its web site (www.bca-pool.com/play) competition results from of each event as well as how much money was raised.
