2001 Admiral World Pool Championship
Kevin Smith, the 30 year-old Dulwich Destroyer, has made it through to his second consecutive World Championship. Last year Smith created a major upset in Cardiff when he overturned former World Champion Nick Varner, and then gave Earl Strickland a scare before going out in the last 32. Monday's other winner was young London pro Majid 'Magic' Imran who will also be making his second World Championship appearance. Majid won through the Daily Star-backed qualifiers in 1999, but struggled in the group stages. Play at Bristol continues today. Tables for the World Championship are provided by Brunswick, cloth by Simonis, balls by Saluc and racks by Lou Sardo Products. The event's official bookmaker is Stan James. |
