2001 Admiral World Pool Championship SPAIN AND GERMANY each have another representative in the starting line-up at the Cardiff International Arena as David Alcaide and then Daniel Dutz made it through after another pool marathon at the Stars and Stripes club in Bristol. Spaniard Alcaide is well known in Europe as a class player and Dutz is no stranger to Cardiff - he won through in qualifiers in Germany last year where his reward was the opening TV game against then defending champ Efren Reyes. Alcaide goes into Group 15 where he will face Steve Davis amongst others and Dutz plays in Group 5 which is headed by 2000 runner-up Ismael Paez and 1999 runner-up Hao Ping Chang. Other news from Cardiff is that top American Shannon Daulton is out the tournament. The Cannon had been seeded into Group 1 with defending champ Fong Pang Chao but will not now be attending due to personal reasons. His spot will now be up for grabs at the qualifiers in Bristol. Play continues today and tomorrow with a further four spots to be decided.
