Los Angeles pool enthusiasts packed the stands at Hard Times Billiards in beautiful southern California today to see who could prevail on some of the toughest equipment anywhere. Hard Times added 5,000 to this inaugural event, which drew some of the top talent from around the country. Seventy-six players including such notables as Efren Reyes, Mika Immonen, Thorston Hohmann, Stevie Moore and local favorite Oscar Dominguez are vying for the 4,000 first prize.
Fans were riveted when TAR broadcast Mika against Efren early on Friday, where Efren toppled last year's player of the year by a score of 9-1. Lee Van Corteza of the Philipinnes also dominated Hard Times' own Ismael “Morro” Paez by the same margin.
Play resumes at 11am Saturday with winner bracket matches featuring Efren Reyes vs. Rodney Morris, young Brenden Crockett vs. Stevie Moore and local professional, “Big Wave” Dave Hemmah against Sal Butera.
