Ms. Dodson, who has for years marketed her own brand of jump cue (The Frog), and made the jump her signature shot in competitive play, has now compiled her vast knowledge of this one specialty shot and presented it in a highly comprehensive and entertaining manner. Her presentation in this DVD is smooth and relaxed, and makes the viewer feel as though he or she is getting one-on-one personalized instruction from someone who actually knows what the common problems are and exactly what needs to be done about them. The information she shares is spot-on, with strong emphasis being repeatedly placed on key elements of the shot; such as the importance of the "follow through." Also, both the audio and video aspects of this DVD are of a professional quality, making this disc all the more enjoyable to view and study.
One of the things about Mastering the Jump Shot I didn't like is the way Robin sometimes lowers her voice, as if she is trying to share a guarded secret with the viewer, only to achieve the opposite effect as it makes the "secret" hard to hear. Another thing I found disconcerting is Robin's not-so-clear explanation of exactly where the tip should contact the cue ball at various cue elevations. For instance, saying that you must "aim a little above center" doesn't really tell the player anything if the player isn't sure where "center" is located to begin with. This can present a formidable problem to novice players; and it is novice players that this DVD is geared towards.
All in all, I thought Mastering the Jump Shot is one of the slickest and most beneficial instructional DVD's I've ever seen. And at a retail price of only $30, it would be very difficult for users to ever feel that they went wrong by purchasing this product.
