THE
U.S. NATIONAL SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP

The U.S. National Snooker Championship is the premier snooker event of the United States organized annually by the United States Snooker Association (USSA).

Each year, the champion and runner-up are given the opportunity by the USSA, to go on an expenses paid trip to represent the United States in the year's International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championship which takes place in one of the more than sixty member nations around the world affiliated to the IBSF.

Under the rules of the IBSF, which as a member nation the USSA adheres to, any United States citizen can enter and compete in the U.S. National Snooker Championship. However, there is also a provision to allow strictly proven minimun five-year permanent residents of the United States to compete in the Championship too – the minimun period of time in which a foreign permanent resident of the United States becomes eligible for citizenship.

Tom Kollins

Tom Kollins, who is the current Vice-President of the USSA, is by far the most experienced international snooker player from the United States, as he has traveled the world to countries that include England, Malaysia, Malta, Papua New Guinea, South Africa and Thailand representing the United States. He has been a superb ambassador for snooker in the United States to every country he has competed in, and very soon he will be about to add China to his long list.

The USSA would certainly like to find many more snooker players from all across the United States with the same enthusiasm as Tom Kollins, to compete in future U.S. National Championships to make it an even bigger and prestigious event.

There is a complete range of abilities from those who compete in the Championship, as many compete for the pure enjoyment and experience of taking part, and also for the warm welcome and great atmosphere the Championship generates.

The great incentive for those who decide to compete is the possibily of holding the prestigious title of U.S. National Snooker Champion for a year, and to go on and travel abroad to represent our nation in the IBSF World Snooker Championship.

If you have an interest in competing in the 2002 U.S. National Championship, with the prospect of going to represent the United States in the 2002 IBSF World Snooker Championship, then please do contact the USSA on for entry details.
