Why the Break Box is Detrimental to the sport of Pocket Billiards!
by Tommy Kennedy

First of all let me say the Break Box is a joke. It was designed for people who don't have a great break or much momentum.(and you know who you are!) If we went back in time, about five years ago, the Break Box would not even be an issue.

But we can't. It all started in January of 1996. A small group of Elite PBT players, (About 32 to be exact) were assembled in Los Angeles, California for the Legends tournament, an Invitational only Event. It all started with Bob Meucci and his players. All of a sudden out of nowhere, he suggested a Break Box along with other things to make the game tougher. Everything else was very good except the Break Box.

It was voted on and majority ruled. Among the ones opposed was myself and none other than Johnny Archer. But as it goes the guys who control pool won the argument.

So now we all pay the Price! The Break Box didn't improve the game, it just made a few guys happy because they don't have a good break.

Anyone who thinks the Box is good is under an illusion. The only way out of this dilemma is to vote the Box out completely. My main concern now is the Masters Tournament in April and also the U.S. OPEN again in 2001. I need your help and support to give the players a fair chance when we step up. Please give me your endorsement of No Break Box as soon as you can. If I get enough signatures, Barry Behrman will probably change back to No Break Box. Please send your e-mail response to breakbox@azbilliards.com Please respond positively.
