26th Annual US Open

Jeremy Jones Interview.

AZB: We are at the US Open with Jeremy Jones. Jeremy, how did the tournament go?

Jeremy: Well, I am not real pleased with the way I performed. Tough equipment, and I had a few players play well against me. I played a few good matches and beat a few good players, but overall I would say it was a disappointment. I'd like to be an optimist, but it was not my best performance.

AZB: You were talking about the equipment being played on. Diamond tables this year. How are the tables playing?

Jeremy: The tables are fine. We have played on these tables a number of times in tournaments. Here in Virginia, right next to the Atlantic, it gets awfully humid. This room is traditionally known to get humid. So, when the balls get boinging a little bit, these Diamonds get tough. No one has run any 3s or 4s or 5s. It makes for a little different game and the way they got the rack set up, the balls are really breaking tough. You see a lot of upsets when the conditions are like these.

AZB: We got to see another edition of the famous Jeremy Jones/Johnny Archer battle. You guys seem to go at it on a fairly regular basis. How did you do in that one this time?

Jeremy: It was probably the best match I played during the tournament. My mind was a little more relaxed. I wasn't thinking about it as much. I am always comfortable playing Johnny because we have played to many times and we are good friends. We kind of have fun even though we are competing. We both want to win 11-0. There is no shame in making each other look bad. I felt real good about that match and it got the day started today. I just didn't really perform and didn't get a lot of shots in my second match against Buddy. I thought after Johnny's match that I was going to do OK. There is always next year.

AZB: So, where are we going to see you in action next?

Jeremy: The next big event will probably be in Tokyo. There are a few tournaments around the area that I live in the Houston area. There are two big tournaments. One in Port Arthur and one in League City which is not far. I will play in both of those tournaments and try to get warmed up and get to practicing.

AZB: And then you are off to the big hundred million yen tournament?

Jeremy: And there are a few other tournaments that I might play in while I am over there. Depends on if the timing falls correctly. They are during the same time frame and it beats making two trips. I guess we have to see what is going on with the world at that time. That is about a month away. Hopefully, we will all be over there playing in Tokyo.

AZB: Have you heard anything about Mosconi Cup 2001 yet?

Jeremy: No, I haven't heard anything as far as the teams go. I think it is pretty obvious which Europeans will be on the team but I think it is pretty much up in the air as the Americans. I think you are definitely going to have Corey, definitely going to have Earl, and Johnny. As far as the other three, I think it pretty much undetermined.

AZB: Well, good luck the rest of the year. Sorry the finish wasn't better at the open this year.

Jeremy: That is ok. I always enjoy coming here and I always learn from it.
