Alex Pagulayan
Polo tames The Lion at Valley Forge

The Brunswick Pro Players Championship is underway at the Valley Forge Convention Center where 'The Lion' Alex Pagulayan was the victim of the first big upset of the day. Pagulayan fell 10-7 to local favorite Don Polo. Polo will next face Jimmy Wetch while Pagulayan will face Danny Barouty.

Other winners in the first round included 'Mighty' Max Eberle who survived a hill-hill scare with Art Wiggins and 'Machine Gun' Luc Salvas who rolled over Flaco Rodriguez 10-3. Rodriguez commented that he allowed Salvas' fast pace to get to him. "I started speeding up my pace to try to match his and that got me in trouble." he commented. Salvas, the owner of yet another pool room in Canada, commented that he was feeling good. "I win a lot of events in Canada, but I am still looking for a big win in the states".

The Women's Pro Players Championship also got underway on Friday, where Line Kjoersvik upset Gerda Hofstatter in their first round match of the 8 player round robin event. Other winners included Helena Thornfeldt over Monica Webb and Karen Corr over Julie Kelly.
