2000 World Pool Masters
1st Round Results
Tony Drago (Malta) 7 - 2 Marcus Chamat (Sweden)

Tony Drago became the first quarter-finalist at this year's World Masters as he disposed of reigning European Champion Marcus Chamat here at Lakeside Shopping Centre, Thurrock, Essex.

Drago, 34, had flown in from his native Malta yesterday claiming that he had not picked up a cue since a disappointing World Championship in Cardiff back in July. Despite that, he totally dominated the match, capitalising on some Chamat mistakes to win five racks back-to-back to move into the next round where he will play either UK No 2 Steve Knight or Kunihiko Takahashi.

Commented Drago, " I was very tired from yesterday and I didn't have any expectations but in this game if you take your chances you win and that is exactly what I did. Now I can have a proper rest and prepare myself for the quarter-finals tomorrow afternoon. "

Play continues this afternoon with Jimmy White facing defending champion Alex Lely of Holland.
