2008 Olympia Open Wraps Up and Pays Out Over $23,000

The 2008 Olympia Open got the year started right for a number of players who made the trek to Oconomowoc, WI (January 3-6, 2008). The event began Thursday evening with a two-divisional 9-ball event. The upper division had $2500 added with 35 players. John Fields of Appleton WI playing as at top amateur, defeated Kevin Belongie of Marinette WI to capture the $1000 first place. In the Lower division with $1000 added, Mike Sterling of Rockford IL playing as an “A” defeated Patrick Troutman of Milwaukee a “B”.

The eight ball event had three divisions, a $1000 added B tournament, a $1500 added A tournament and a $4000 added handicapped upper division. The B division saw Chad Wegner defeat Greg Chavera.The “A” division saw Josh Payne of Saginaw MI go second set hill/hill to defeat Jeff Kohl of Appleton WI. Payne received $900 for his efforts. The Upper division saw top amateur Jesse Bowman of the Quad cities go undefeated and capture the crown. Tommy Hernadez rated a master. stormed through the losers side, but did not have enough in the tank to take down Jesse. Jesse received the guaranteed first prize of $2500 and Tommy got $1005 for second. Third place went to Jeremy Ross of Beloit and fourth to Jeff Sergent. Total payout for the event was a whopping $23,060.
