Alejo Falcon
26 November 2010 – Alejo Falcon, bested ten shooters to win first place at Fun N Sun's 10-ball tournament Friday, 26 November.
Fun N Sun's Valley Wide Pool Tournament is held every Friday morning during the winter season and attracts some of the best shooters in the valley. The season for these tournaments runs from the first Friday in November to the first Friday in April.
Mr. Falcon, born in San Benito, was introduced to pool 50 years ago. He was introduced to pool at church. If he attended services, the pastor would allow him to shoot pool on the church table.
Once a migrant worker, Alejo retired as a crane operator in a steel mill in Sterling, Illinois in 1997. He moved with his wife Margaret back to Harlingen, Texas at that time.
Alejo has many great experiences on the pool table including winning five gold medals and one silver medal in McAllen's Golden Olympics. He has also played pool with some famous shooters including Dallas West and trick shot artist Mike Massey. Ray Krawchuk of Texas Trails in Pharr was second. Bill Hakanson, who is living at Fun N Sun this winter, was third.
Shooters must be 55 years old or older. Entry fee is $5 per person. All entry fees are returned to the first three winners in the form of cash prizes.
