Zablan Triumphs in $10,000.00 9-Ball Tournament

Gregg Kakugawa, “Hawaiian Brian” Hashimoto, Jay Zablan, Lance Uyeda

The $10,000.00 Aloha Open 9-Ball tournament held at Hawaiian Brian's Billiards played to a packed house and included drawings for thousands of dollars in prizes and opportunities for pool players to prove they've “got game”. The 128 player field was filled nearly two weeks before the start of the popular Honolulu tournament.

The “race to three” finals pitted unbeaten Lance Uyeda from the winner's bracket and old-timer “Hawaiian Jay” Zablan emerging from the losers bracket. Winning the toss of the coin and the first break, Jay made the nine-ball on the break, then coasted to a 3-0 victory to claim the $3,500.00 first place check and the commemorative Hawaiian Brian's 18k gold ring. Lance Uyeda took home the $1,800.00 second place check.
