Pool Titlists Champion the Environment

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY---The Environmental program of Puerto Princesa got a power break yesterday morning (Saturday) when pool champions from Germany, Taiwan, China and the Philippines planted mangrove trees in line with the mangrove restoration project of Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn.

World champions Thorsten Hohmann (Germany) and Chia Ching Wu (Taiwan), world junior champion Pin-Yi Ko (Taiwan), top Chinese player Wang Ming (China), and Filipino titlists Antonio Gabica and Marlon Manalo  planted a mangrove tree each at the restoration project in Barangay San Jose, Puerto Princesa.

They were joined Ms. Li Jia, Chinese women's champion, and a number of young Palawenos who were recent contestants for the title of Miss Puerto Princesa.

Mayor Hagedorn said that each mangrove tree planted by the pool champions will bear the name of the one who planted it. The mangrove restoration project is part of the Love Affair with Nature program of the city government. The once denuded marshland of Barangay San Jose is now covered again with mangrove trees, thanks to the continuous replanting efforts by residents and visitors of Puerto Princesa.

Hohmann, Wu and company are competing in the Puerto Princesa Mayor's Cup which is currently ongoing at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum. The tournament will conclude today, Sunday, June 22.
