Poolstudents.net and local players support Susan Williams Amway Cup Trip

Poolstudents.net and the Phoenix pool community are raising money to help send Susan Williams, a Phoenix-based Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) player, to the 2011 Amway WPA Women’s World 9-Ball Open in Taipei, Taiwan.

Susan, who is currently the WPBA’s 37th-ranked player, will join 40 of the top women players in the world March 8th at the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA) event.

Susan has played on the WPBA Tour since 2005. In 2010 she was the top player on the Arizona Women’s Billiards Tour (AWBT) with three first-place finishes as well as finishing in the top ten on the Desert Classic Tour (DCT).

“Our new website is not so much about the winning and losing,’’ said Michael LaLumiere of Poolstudents.net. “We’re more interested in finding the best things about the game and doing what we can to highlight those. Everyone agrees that Susan is a bright spot in the Phoenix pool scene and has been for many years. So she’s naturally someone we want to support.’’

The Amway Cup will be Susan’s first international pool event. The first prize of $20,000 will attract a tough field.

“Of course we want Susan to do well at the Amway Cup,’’ said Nick DeLeon, who with his wife Alicia, are running the fundraising raffle. “But this is about supporting Susan. She and her husband Michael have always supported others including me and I want to make sure we do the same thing for her.’’

Susan fits her pool in around her job as a recovery room nurse at a Phoenix-area hospital.

Items to be raffled off for the fundraising event include a cue donated by Lenny Marshall, a custom jump cue and pool accessories donated by Roger Long. If you’re interested in being a sponsor for Susan contact Poolstudents.net by emailing mike@poolstudents.net.
