Dynamic Billard Treviso Open provides surprising results on day one

Fabio Petroni
The first day of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open provided the spectators with unexpected results as well as expected victories.

The first exclamation mark was set in the first round by Babken Melkonyan (ROM) when he defeated Tomas Larsson (SWE) with 8:5. Too bad for Melkonyan he had to deal with Oliver Ortmann (GER) in the first winner’s round and got handed a clear 3:8 defeat.

Current number 1 ranked player in the Euro-Tour rankings, Albin Ouschan from Austria, had a furious start and smashed Fadil Krasniki (SUI) with 8:1. In the second winner’s round he had to deal with newcomer Daniele Corrieri (ITA) who handed Hugo Erro from Spain a doughnut, defeating him 8:0 in the winner’s round 1. Then these two players met. Corrieri started better and achieved a nice 6:2 lead over Ouschan. Then Ouschan got a few racks back from Corrieri. At 6:7, a tough safety battle evolved with the better end for Corrieri. The Italian moves into the winner’s qualification round while Ouschan has to try and make his way through the loser’s side. His first task there will not be an easy one. He will have to deal with Ruslan Chinakhov from Russia.

Another favorite player who got an early defeat is Konstantin Stepanov (RUS). The Russian fell to unheralded Michal Turkowski (POL) with 4:8. It is very important for Stepanov to get as many points as possible here at this event since he still has a good chance of winning the tour this year.

"Fabulous" Fabio Petroni (ITA) easliy won his first two matches with 8:3 and 8:5 and will now face Ivica Putnik from Croatia in the winner’s qualification round.

"The Maharaja" Imran Majid from great Britain lost his match in the 2nd winner’s round with 4:8 against Jesse Waltteri Huttunen (FIN) with 4:8.

Other European "Top Gun" players like David Alcaide (ESP), Daryl Peach (GBR), Nick Van Den Berg (NED) and Chris Melling (GBR), just to name a few, won all their opening matches and will play the winner’s qualification round tomorrow.
