Mark Snodgrass and Dave Daya Take Home Qualifier Spots for 2008 World Straight Pool Championships

Comet Billiards in Parsippany, New Jersey, has long been a strong supporter of the regional tours and larger events that fall in the area.  This past Saturday (July 26, 2008), owner Bill Haley, offered up his room yet again for a $100 entry New Jersey qualifier for the upcoming 2008 World Straight Pool Championships which will be held at the Hilton in East Brunswick, New Jersey August 26-30, 2008.

Although the field was not a full as one would hope, the twelve players that made their way into the venue came in with one goal in mind and that was to snag the two open spots for the championship event.  This weekend ended up being all about Mark Snodgrass and Dave Daya.

Snodgrass started out the day with a bye as did four other competitors, then went on to defeat Edgar Shuck 100-28 and Dan Heidrich 100-41.  He ran into New York's Mike Yednak in the hot-seat match and bested him 100-32 to seal the deal with one of the two qualifier spots available.

On the flip side, Dave Daya took the long way for his qualifier win.  Daya started the day with a loss to Dan Heidrich 100-37, then began his trek through the one-loss side with wins over Jonathan Jessen 100-22 and Jim Heller 100-34 before he had another shot at Dan Heidrich.  This time, Heidrich was taken down by a score of 100-79.  Daya continued on through Chris Lynch 100-43 and ultimately Mike Yednak 100-47 before he was able to claim the final prize, his spot for the August event.

Since two spots were available, a final round was not played.

Special thanks to Comet Billiards for their continued support of the surrounding tours.  For more information on the room itself, visit the website at www.cometbilliards.com.   Upcoming events for this venue include Tony Robles' Predator Open 9-Ball Tour slated for August 2nd-3rd; and August 20th-23rd The 2008 Jack Colavita Memorial New Jersey State 14.1 Straight Pool Championship.  For those of you that have not been to this establishment, it is a beautiful room with plenty tables to choose from – stop in the next time you are in the area, you won't be disappointed.
