Archer and Schmidt to Participate in Puerto Rico Challenge

John Schmidt will join Johnny Archer in Puerto Rico

For the 3rd consecutive year, PR Pool will be hosting a major tournament on the island of Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico Challenge, to take place at Players Pool Hall in Yauco, Puerto Rico, will be held the weekend of January 27-29, 2007. Johnny Archer will be coming to the island trying to complete a three-peat. For the past 2 years, Archer has dominated the 9-ball scene, completing undefeated runs in both tournaments he has played in the island. This year, though, the Puerto Rico Challenge will be played as an 8-ball tournament. This will probably present a tougher test for Archer, because 8-ball has been one of the preferred games in the island for years.

Last year, Archer had to deal with big guns like Gabe Owen, Corey Deuel, Tony Robles and Robb Saez. This time around he will have to deal with 2006 US Open Champion, John Schmidt, who is playing the best pool of his career. In addition to that, the top four 8–ball players will participate in the event.

It also promises to be a special event for fans and amateur players, as they will have the opportunity to challenge both Archer and Schmidt on Friday and Saturday.

Abel Nazario, Mayor of Yauco City, is the principal sponsor in this tournament. He has always been a key contributor in the town's sports scene, and is going to make sure that billiards is not the exception. He has pledged to continue his support in these world class pool tournaments and hopes to continue improving the exposure and tourism in his City, with these types of events.
