Archer wins Big Apple Challenge

Johnny Archer

With a hill-hill win in the finals, Johnny Archer completed his undefeated run though the field and won the Second Annual Master Billiards Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge.

Archer started his run with wins over Brian Yi and Noel Bensurto and then defeated Frankie Hernandez and Francisco Bustamante. Archer's next match was Charles 'Hillbilly' Bryant, who had been playing some great 9-ball with wins over Max Eberle and Mika Immonen. Archer won this match and then defeated longtime friend and rival Jeremy Jones. This only left Jose Parica as the last hurdle for Archer to clear to take the hot-seat and Archer proved he was up the task with another win.

Parica took the trip to the one-loss side where Jones was waiting for him. Jones had eliminated Ralf Souquet and Rodney Morris on the one-loss side, but wanted another shot at Archer. Jones won the match with Parica 11-7 and ended it with a three foul win against Parica.

The final race to thirteen was another epic battle between the two players. Archer took the early lead, but Jones clawed back to tie the match at hill-hill before Archer was finally able to score the final game win.

Archer collected $10,000 for the win, while Jones pocketed $6,000 for second. Parica and Morris filled out the top four spots.
