Bubet wins first Tri-State event

Kyle Bubet, Tournament Director Bill Focaccia and Cory Sohlman

Kyle Bubet chose the undefeated route to chalk up his first Tri-State victory on Saturday, November 13. The $500-added event drew 23 entrants to Castle Billiards in East Rutherford, NJ.

From among the winners' side final four, Bubet sent the man he'd eventually face in the finals – Cory Sohlman – to the one-loss side with a 6-4 win. Alex Borukhovich, in the meantime, sent Peter Chin west 6-5, to face Bubet in the hot seat match. Bubet gained the hot seat with a 6-3 win and waited for Sohlman to come back from the 5/6 matches.

Sohlman opened his trek back to the finals versus Antonio Navarro, who'd defeated King Victoree and Pho Tran, both 6-4, to reach him. Chin drew Scott Abramowitz, who'd gotten by Ted Lapadula and Nick Verducci, both 6-5. Sohlman dropped Navarro into the tie for fifth place 6-3, as Abramowitz made short work of Chin 6-1. Sohlman was picking up some speed as he made his way back, defeating Abramowitz in the quarterfinals 6-3 and then ending Borukhovich's day 6-1.

In spite of the wait, Bubet then turned the tables on Sohlman in the finals. He completed his undefeated, first Tri-State win with a 6-1 victory over Sohlman and took home the first place prize.
