Colorado State Juniors Champions Crowned

DJ Trujillo with Melissa Little

On the weekend of September 30, 2006 The Wynkoop Brewing Company, located in Downtown Denver, hosted the 2006 Colorado State Juniors Championships. Twenty-three kids ranging from ages 8 through 19 participated in this handicapped annual 9-ball event.

By the end, it was little 9-year old DJ Trujillo from Pueblo who went undefeated to become the State Champion! James Fortin, from the metro area, ran through the losers bracket beating Kyle 5-2, then strong player Jeremy 5-0, to meet up with DJ in the finals to lose a tough heartbreaking 5-3 match.

Out of the 23 players, there were only two female players Nicole and Cassie who tied for 13th-16th in the tournament so; they had a playoff to determine the highest finishing female of the event. Nicole who won the match by a margin of 5-2 graciously gave up her trophy to younger challenger Cassie for her efforts.

Throughout the whole weekend emotions ran high in this prestigious event but at the end all the kids were happy to attend and compete. A special thanks to Melissa's sponsors Jacoby Custom Cues, Brunswick Home and Billiard, and The Wynkoop for supporting these kids here in Colorado!
