Duchess regains throne at Delta Classic

Allison Fisher got the new WPBA season off to a good start with an undefeated run through the field at the Delta Classic held at Samstown Casino in Robinsonville, MS.

Fisher dominated opponents until the hot seat match, not allowing an opponent to score more than four games against her in the race to nine format. The hot seat match with Jennifer Chen went to hill-hill, but Fisher pulled out the 9-8 win to secure her position in the hot-seat and await an opponent on Sunday.

The race to meet Allison in the finals featured a number of interesting stories. Kim White from Texas finished in fifth place, one spot out of the TV rounds. Her final loss was to Kim Shaw, who made her TV debut at this event. Although Shaw lost to Jeanette Lee in front of the ESPN cameras, her fourth place finish was well earned with wins over Karen Corr and Vivian Villarreal.

After Lee defeated Shaw, she then defeated Jennifer Chen to set up the final match between herself and Fisher. The final match was close, but in the end it was Fisher who scored the victory for her first title of the new season.

Coupled with Karen Corr's 9th place finish, the win also catapults Fisher back into the top spot on the WPBA ranking list; a position she lost to Corr back in June of 2001.
