Fisher wins Midwest Classic

Allison Fisher

The WPBA Website is reporting that Allison Fisher has won the 2005 WPBA Midwest Classic held at The Par-A-Dice Hotel and Casino in E. Peoria, IL.

Fisher went undefeated and allowed one opponent (Vivian Villarreal) to the hill against her all week. The win over Villarreal got Fisher into the single elimination final eight in this uniquely formatted event. (The final eight players competed in single elimination TV matches.)

After qualifying for the TV rounds, Fisher took control with a 7-2 win over Sarah Ellerby, a 7-3 win over Monica Webb and a dominating 7-1 win over Helena Thornfeldt in the finals. 'Dominating' doesn't truly describe the match as Thornfeldt was held to only 8 pocketed balls in the entire set.

Fisher earned $16,000 for first place while Thornfeldt settled for $10,000. Webb and Jennifer Chen finished tied for 3rd and pocketed $6000 each.

The win will pad Fisher's lead on the points list. She went into the event with a 120 point lead over Karen Corr and she ended the event with a 230 point lead.
