Fuller goes undefeated to claim an 8-ball event on the DL Billiards Tour

Bill Fuller, D’Andrea Leassear and Darryl Amos

Bill Fuller’s been around the pool table ‘block’ a few times since he recorded his first payout with us here at AZBilliards, 20 years ago, when he finished 9th/12th at a stop on the Fast Eddie’s Tour in San Antonio, TX, which, by the way, featured Vivian Villareal competing in both the Open and Ladies events (winning with the Ladies and finishing 4th among the boys). Since that early May in 2003, Fuller’s been on someone’s cash payout list in Texas fairly consistently. He chalked up his first (recorded) regional tour win on the Poison Predator Tour in 2012 in what still remains his best (recorded) earnings year at the tables.

This past weekend (Sept. 16-17), Fuller recorded his second regional tour win, going undefeated on the DL Billiards Tour’s Stop #6, downing a relative newcomer (three cash finishes over the past nine years), Darryl Amos twice, hot seat and finals. The $500-added, 8-ball event drew 32 entrants to Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, TX.

Things just kept getting better for Fuller as he rolled on out into the field, defeating Natalie Esparza-Rocha (who ended up winning the $100 Last Woman Standing 7-5, Charles Holan 7-4 and shut out James Costello to arrive at a winners’ side semifinal match against Mike Nguyen. Amos, in the meantime, opened with a 7-4 win over Felix Galindo and then survived a double-hill match against Shane Patrick. He advanced to down Martyn Glancy 7-4 and drew Andrew Rodriguez in the other winners’ side semifinal.

Fuller and Amos sent Nguyen and Rodriguez to the loss side’s 5th/6th matches, both 7-3, and then locked up in a double-hill battle to claim the hot seat. Fuller came out on top and kicked back for a while, waiting on Amos’ return.

On the loss side, Rodriguez picked up Kenny Price, the highest Fargo-rated player (670) competing in the event, who’d lost his first match to Nguyen and set out on a five-match winning streak that had just eliminated James Costello 9-3 and by shutout, Ronnie Seller. Nguyen drew Glancy, who’d followed his winners’ side quarterfinal loss to Amos with a 7-4 victory over Chuck Adams and a shutout over Felix Galindo.

With Price racing to 9, Rodriguez eked out a double-hill, 7-8 and advanced to the quarterfinals. Glancy locked up in a straight-up race to 7, double-hill match as well, winning it eventually to join Rodriguez.

Rodriguez eliminated Glancy in those quarterfinals 7-3, but had his loss-side trip limited to two wins, when Amos defeated him 7-2 in the semifinals. For the second time, Amos put up a good fight against Fuller, but a fell a rack short of duplicating his double-hill effort in the hot seat match. Fuller completed his undefeated run on the DL Billiards Tour, downing Amos 7-5 and claiming his second (recorded) event title.

Tour director D’Andrea Leassear thanked the ownership and staff at Big Tyme Billiards for their hospitality and “for hosting the tour, adding the money and always supporting me.” Thanks were also extended to the tour’s cue sponsor McDermott Cues,  Southern Streaming for streaming services and to her “wonderful husband, Dennis for (his) support.” The DL Billiards Tour will return to Big Tyme Billiards for an event on the weekend of October 28-29.
