Giant Killer falls to Canadian Ice, but The Truth wins in the end

Larry Nevel

Larry 'The Truth' Nevel went undefeated to win the Viking Cue Nine Ball Tour event at Gametime/Riptide in Greenville, SC.

The 54 player field had a fair share of top players including Nevel, Tony Watson, Brian Butler and BJ Ussery. Even with that kind of firepower, the big story in this event was the return of Nikki 'The Giant Killer' Hollingsworth to competitive pool after giving birth to her son Cameron. Hollingsworth (formerly Benish), made a statement early with a 7-1 win over Tony Watson. Another great match saw Hollingsworth trailing Mike Staubes 5-0 when Staubes missed a 7-ball and never won another game. Hollingsworth had lost earlier in the event to Staubes, but took this set 7-5.

On the winners side, Nevel faced off against Brian 'Canadian Ice' Butler for the hot-seat and Nevel came out on top 7-1. Butler then handed Hollingsworth her second loss 7-0 in the semi-finals. This earned Butler another shot at Nevel in the finals, but he was unable to get more than 4 games before Nevel finished off the set 7-4.

Nevel earned $1265 for first, while Butler took home $850 for second. Hollingsworth and Staubes filled out the top four spots. The top six players qualifier for the NUTS Skins Game qualifier, as well as wild cards Sammy Odem and Steve Crawford.

The Viking Tour will be at Murphy's Brass Rail in Athens, GA next weekend for their next event.
