Hohmann maintains bid for WPC repeat

Defending champion Thorsten Hohmann of Germany kept up his 100% record as day two of the 2004 Taiwan World Pool Championship drew to close at the World Trade Center in Taipei.

Heading Group 1, the 24 year-old from Fulda, Germany looked confident recording victories over fellow Europeans Eric Weiselius (Sweden) and Switzerland's Marco Tschudi.

2002 champion Earl Strickland is also over the line with four wins from four in Group 3. His eight points ensure a berth in last 64 and tonight he beat Radoslaw Babica and Vittorio de Falco.

Strickland's Mosconi Cup team mate Johnny Archer is also a maximum man after four games. He was gifted his final match as South African Yulan Govender messed up an elementary three ball run out to take both points.

2002 finalist Francisco Bustamante leads the Filipino contingent with eight points in Group 7 and there are many who feel that despite a lack lustre season, Django can mount a serious challenge in Taipei.

Taiwanese player Ying-chieh Chen has four wins from four in Group 13 with shock Norweigian Raymond Hauge chasing his tail with three wins in three starts.

Play continues tomorrow at midday local time with TV table coverage starting at 17.00.
