Jennings wins Georgia Amateur event

1st place winner JIm Jennings(L), room owner Grace Choi (C) and 2nd place winner T.F. Whittington(R)

On July 10, Murphy's Brass Rail, Athens , Ga proved to be a good tournament for seniors with 5 of the top 6 winners fitting into that category. Jim Jennings took 1st place after working his way through the winners bracket against some of the top points place tour members. A field of 20 players came out to compete in the $500 added event.

Scott Richardson thought he had a good chance for the winners circle when he sent T.F. Whittington to the one loss side only to match up with him again after losing to Jim Jennings.

T.F. proved his game was still good when he knocked Scott into 3rd place so he could try for the win. When T.F. met up with Jim he took an early lead but the match remained within 2 games throughout. In a double hill game T.F. broke and ran the balls missing the long bank on the 8 therefore leaving Jim with a 2 ball run out to close out the match for a 9-8 victory. Both players played well in their efforts and we want to congratulate all who participated.

1st place- Jim Jennings $405
2nd place- T. F. Whittington $245
3rd place - Scott Richardson $165
4th place - Steve Cox $ 85

Tour owner Kay Higgins and her73 year old mother Edith Rogers, who travels with Kay on business trips, were traveling through and decided to stop in at this event. Kay was able to meet several of the tour players and chat with them prior to the event getting started. It is always nice when I can meet the players face to face. It makes me feel good to see players enjoying the game as much as I do. Edith, due to Kay's part in the Amateur 9-Ball tour has recently become a fan of pool and now watches matches on TV.

Murphy's Brass Rail located in Athens, Ga. 14-9' tables laid out in tournament style with spectator seating around the play area. Murphy's is the host of our season finale.
