Joshua Filler Wins Derby City Bigfoot Title

After four days of play on the Diamond 10-Foot table in the Accu-Stats arena, Joshua Filler is your new Derby City Classic Bigfoot 10-Ball Champion.

Filler had made his way through Mieszko Fortunski and John Morra to earn his place in the semi-finals against Fedor Gorst on Monday. That match with Gorst would be his closest content of the event. The match was a tactical masterpiece with safety battles being fought almost every rack. Filler looked to be in good shape with an 8-4 lead, but Gorst then turned things up a notch or two and won five straight racks to get to the hill at 9-8. Filler answered with a break and run in the 18th rack to knot things at hill-hill and it was Filler taking advantage of an early opportunity to control the rack and run out for the 10-9 win.

The second semi-final of the day pitted Konrad Juszczyszyn against Lee Vann Corteza. Juszczyszyn had finished as runner-up in this event last year, while Corteza is always close to the finals on the bigfoot. This match was really all about Corteza as he jumped on Juszczyszyn early, seemingly snuffing out the will to make balls for Juszczyszyn. The final score was 10-5 for Corteza, but the match didn’t even seem that close.

The final match between Filler and Corteza went back and forth early, with ties at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3. Filler took the matches first two rack lead at 5-3, but Corteza fought back to tie things at 5-5. In each of Corteza’s earlier matches, he had brought his best play in the second half of the match, but this time it was Filler who took control of the matches second half, winning five straight games to capture the title by the score of 10-5.

Meanwhile, the banks division is starting to get down to the nitty gritty, with just nineteen players left after nine rounds of play. Notable players still alive in the event are Tony Chohan, Lee Vann Corteza, Joshua Filler, Roberto Gomez, Fedor Gorst, Justin Hall, Alex Pagulayan, John Hennessee Tyler Styer, Billy Thorpe and Shane Van Boening.

The one pocket division is also in play and with round three starting on Tuesday morning, the field is down to just over 250 players.

The Diamond 10-Foot table is now moved out of the Accu-Stats arena and a fresh new Diamond 9-foot feature table is in it’s place. That table will see action in both banks and one pocket on Tuesday with Fedor Gorst set to play Lee Vann Corteza in banks at noon, and then Skyler Woodward and David Matlock scheduled to play one pocket at 2:00 pm.

Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats Video Productions are covering this event with video PPV. The full event pass is $79.95, $14.95 for just one day.  The PPV will include select matches from the Banks, One Pocket and 9-Ball events.
