Korea Championship Day Two

Max Eberle

32 players started on the winners side of the mens division and that has been dwindled down to 16. Half the field still contains Korean players and the other half are foreign players.

Some highlight men's matches were Max Eberle's 9-8 thriller over Thorsten Hohmann. Eberle trailed 7-3 but came back to win 9-8 against the former World Champion. 16 year old Taiwan sensation Chia Ching Wu added another notch to his belt with a 9-3 drubbing of JBC #1 Hiroshi Takenaka. Charlie Williams came back from 8-6 to survive a 9-8 escape from Korea's Seung Woo Ryu.

The upset of the day came from unknown Korean player Hong Jo Jeong who defeated #1 Asia ranked Young Hwa Jeong who was Korea's favorite to win the event.

On the womans side Jennifer Barretta from the USA is off to a good start in her first international event with wins over Korea's W.J. Han and Japan's Miyuki Sakai. She will face Korea's number one hope Ga Young Kim tomorrow. Ga Young Kim won a tough 7-5 bout with Korea's number one womans amateur Kui Young Lee(nicknamed the Queen of Amateur Pool), and then crusied through M.S. Kwon her next match.

The big news on the women's side is the remarkable play of Y.C. Lin from Taiwan. Currently ranked #2 in Taiwan, Lin started out in Stage 1 and has out classed all her opponents thus far in Stage 1 and 2. Many fans and pros commented they've never seen such shotmaking ability from a woman before. Today she cruised through fellow Taiwanese Hsin Huang and then ran over Korea's J.H. Moon. She faces Korea #2 Yun Mi Lim tomorrow.

Tomorrows line up include Williams vs Wu, Eberle vs Park, Takahashi vs Immonen, Hohmann vs Jeong.
