Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation Donations Break £1,000,000 Mark

The Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation has now awarded over £1,000,000 in donations in the three years since it was founded.

The Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation was created to centralise the benevolent efforts of Matchroom Sport, the global sports promotion company headed by Barry Hearn, and its subsidiaries – the Professional Darts Corporation, World Snooker and the PGA EuroPro Tour.

Matchroom Sport promotes in excess of 100 event days per year and part of the Foundation’s funding comes from a contribution equivalent to £1 for every ticket sold for these events.

A wide range of charitable causes have received donations from the Foundation since it was established in July 2016. These have included Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, who received £250,000 over three years to help cover the costs of two nurses, Haven House, who were awarded £200,000 towards the building of the Matchroom Suite, a dedicated building for fundraisers, and Saint Francis Hospice, who were pledged £220,000 to support patients with therapies and programmes of care. Many other charities have also benefited from donations from the Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn commented: “I am very proud of the work that Matchroom Sport Charitable Foundation has done over the past three years and extremely grateful to the Trustees of the Foundation for their hard work and enthusiasm.

“As a company Matchroom Sport have been one of the success stories in our industry over the past four decades and it is personally satisfying to see our Foundation put something back and help those in need.”
