Thirty six of the strongest players in the New England area got together on a cold Sunday afternoon at Snooker's Billiards in Providence, RI. Top players at this event included Tom McGonagle, Walter Bryksa, Kevin Guimond, Matt Tetreault, Tony Masi, Ray Mac, Bristol Bob, Mike Keith and Chris Leal.
In the winners side, it was Mike Keith vs Matt Tetreault for the hot seat. This match was a real shoot out with Mike coming out firing in the beginning and taking an early 3-1 lead. A couple costly error by Mike let Matt back into the match and he took full advantage to gain the lead at 4-3 and move on to the 7-5 win and the hot-seat.
On the one loss side, Keith matched up with Tom McGonagle to determine who would play in the finals. This was a one sided match where Keith couldn't seem to get a break the entire site. Mike would lose to Tom 7-4 to send Tom to the finals against Matt.
The finals was nip and tuck for the first 10 games with neither player able to gain any advantage. Tom took the lead at 6-5 and then won three in a row to get to the hill at 9-5. A miss on the 7-ball in the fifteenth rack looked like it would be costly for McGonagle, but Tetreault also missed the ball and McGonagle ran the final three balls for the 10-5 win.
Tom has been out of the pool circuit for six years, and is just now concentrating on a come-back. Nice going Tom!
