MS Charity Pool Fundraiser

Thorsten Hohmann

The 2nd Annual MS Charity Pool Fundraiser kicks off Friday Oct. 1st, 4:30 p.m., at West Edmonton Mall.  This year's events include:
• 10-Ball tournament Oct 1st,
• US Open Qualifier 9-Ball tournament October 2nd & 3rd, and
• Daniel Hathaway vs. Thorsten Hohmann—the feature exhibition match, Oct. 3rd.

Event founder Dan Hathaway hopes to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis as well as funds for the MS Society—an organization that supports people afflicted with the auto-immune disease. The public is invited to watch the tournament action, participate in prize draws, and make a donation to support the MS Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories.

Fresh from the 2010 China Open Championship in Shanghai (Sept. 20-27), Thorsten Hohmann will be in Edmonton, AB to meet fans and play an exhibition match for charity before getting down to business at the World Tournament 14.1, and US Open 9-Ball tournaments later in October.

Thorsten Hohmann's participation has raised the profile of this year's MS Charity Pool Fundraiser. Spectator donations, along with a $15,000 prize purse for the exhibition match donated by RawVegas.tv, will support the work of the MS Society. Talented players from across western Canada will have a chance to watch Thorsten in action, as well as contend for their own spot at the US Open 9-Ball Championship in Cheaspeake, VA, Oct. 17-23.

Dan Hathaway, three-time Western Canadian Junior 8-Ball champion, lives in Sherwood Park, AB and plays pool competitively when he is not working as an apprentice electrician. He understands the challenges of living with MS, as his mother and uncle both have been diagnosed with MS. One of the most difficult challenges faced by persons living with MS is the social isolation that results from decreased mobility.  Dan founded the MS Charity Pool Fundraiser in 2009 to support the work of the MS Society. Many of the volunteers helping out at this weekend's event are individuals living with MS.

A groundswell of community support for the MS Charity Pool Fundraiser has made this year's event possible. Generous prize donations from RawVegas.tv, Lucasi Cues and Action Electrical—as well as 'in-kind' donations from Perpetual Notion, AfterMac Imaging, and Datacast Solutions—have helped to make this event a reality. Special thanks to River City Games for hosting the tournament.
