Miller wins JPNEWT stop, Feliz wins Ultimate 10-Ball qualification

Briana Miller went undefeated on the May 18-19 stop on the J. Pechauer Northeast Women's Tour, downing Yomaylin "Smiley" Feliz twice to do it. In addition to the first-place prize money of $580, the victory carried a $500 qualifying spot for June's Ultimate 10-Ball Championships in Tunica. Miller is unable to attend, so Feliz won the qualifying spot. The $1,500-added event drew 20 entrants to Raxx Billiards in West Hempstead, NY.

Miller and Feliz met first in the hot seat; Miller having dispatched Shanna Lewis to the loss side 7-4, as Feliz was busy defeating Nicole Nester 7-2. Miller gained the hot seat 7-2 over Feliz and waited for her return.

Over on the loss side, Lewis ran into tour director Linda Shea, who was in the midst of a four-match, loss-side streak that would propel her into the semifinals. Shea had been sent west in the opening round by Miller, and defeated Denise Reeves 7-0, and Gail Glazebrook 7-4 to face Lewis. Nester drew Dawn Fox, who'd gotten by Judie Wilson 7-3 and Nicole Fleming 7-1.

Nester downed Fox 7-4, while Shea was busy surviving a double hill battle versus Lewis. Shea took the quarterfinal matchup over Nester 7-5. Feliz, though, ended Shea's loss-side run with a 7-5 win in the semifinals that gave her a second shot against Miller.

In a modified race-to-9 final, Feliz battled to reach seven racks first, and did so, to extend the race to nine games. Miller, though, hung in to knot things at double hill, and then sink the winner to complete her undefeated weekend.

Tour director Linda Shea thanked Holden Chen and his staff at Raxx Billiards for their hospitality.
