Linda Haywood-Shea wins in Lancaster

A field of 41 women met to compete for two Qualifying spots at NEWT’s second stop in Diamond Billiards in Lancaster PA for the WPBA’s first tour stop in Valley Forge.

On Sunday the final 12 returned for competition. As the field thinned out, Linda Shea emerged as the winner of the hot seat after a hill-hill match with Liz Bernier. Linda had previous match wins over Barndt, Dougherty, Boyd, Merkin, and Tidwell. Liz Bernier fought off Donna Tidwell with a vengeance in the semi-finals to earn another shot at first place and Linda Shea in the finals. Liz had a first round bye and then had match wins over Ha, Dokovic, Rhee, and Kim before losing to Linda and winning against Tidwell for a rematch. Liz and Donna each won a qualifying spot for Valley Forge.

Liz jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Linda caught up to her and tied 2-2 after Liz jawed the 9 in the 4th rack. Linda gained momentum and went up to lead 6-2 but Liz wouldn’t lie down and came back with 4 unanswered games to tie at 6-6 with a beautiful 6-9 carom in the 12th rack. Linda caught her second wind and shut the door on Liz and went on to win the final match 9-6.
