Van Boening Wins Great Dismal Swamp 9-Ball Classic

Shane Van Boening and Oscar Dominguez

If you are looking for success the first time you run a major tournament, scheduling can mean everything. That was the case with the Great Dismal Swamp 9-Ball Classic at Colonal Cues in Elizabeth City, NC on October 24th. Proximity in location and time to the US Open 9-Ball Championship made this event a convenient warm-up for players getting ready for the main event in Norfolk, and the field of players represented six different countries and more firepower than larger events boast. Shane Van Boening, Imran Majid, John Morra and Oscar Dominguez were just a couple of the notable talents in this field.

The event came down to Shane Van Boening and Oscar Dominguez in the finals, and it was Dominguez who broke a 1-1 tie with a 5 pack to take an early 6-1 lead. It was all Shane from there though, as he won the next ten games for the 11-6 win.

Plans are already underway for next year's event and organizers anticipate expanding the field to 32 players and offering an even larger amount of added money.
