Fisher and Finney shine at Amateur Nationals

Kelly Fisher

When Kelly Fisher and Val Finney made their way to the states to take a run at the WPBA Tour, most fans expected they would almost immediately take control of the regional scene and break onto the pro tour with little or no difficulty. They both seem to be making those predictions come true and this weekend, the WPBA Amateur Nationals was no exception.

Fisher and Finney went undefeated to the quarter finals, where Finney defeated Fisher 7-4 for the hot-seat. Fisher took the trip to the one-loss side where a familar face was waiting for her. Leslie Anne Rogers had dropped her first match of the tournament to Fisher, but had won 9 straight matches to earn a rematch with Fisher in the semi-finals. Unfortunately for Rogers, Fisher was just too much for her on this day as Fisher cruised to a 7-2 win sending Rogers home in third place.

The final match was a rematch between Fisher and Finney, and this time it was Fisher who took control of the match and scored the 9-4 win.

Fisher won $1600 plus paid entry into the WPBA Nationals, while Finney pocketed $1100 plus paid entry into the Nationals. Rogers and Rebecca Wagner filled out the top four spots.
