Chaperon wins Showdown Tour stop #3

Bob Chaperon

The third stop on the Showdown Tour was held February 19th and 20th at Pool Paradise in Waterloo, Ontario. Kenny Chen (room owner) had his room in world-class shape for the event which saw some of the top players in Ontario compete for the title of Showdown champion. 56 players made up the field for the event.

Bob Chaperon made it through a tough draw with wins over Edward James ( 9 - 2), Aaron Thomas (9 - 6), John Morra(9 - 7), and Andrew Attard (9 - 4) to be one of 4 undefeated players when play stopped on Saturday. The others undefeated players were Paul Thornley, Jody Matheson, and DJ McGinley.

Eight players returned for the money rounds on Sunday. Al Lougheed outlasted John Morra (7 - 6) and Mike Fisher defeated John Timmerman (7 - 4) on the B side. Bob Chaperon won a close match over DJ McGinley (9 - 8) in the first A side match and Jody Matheson beat Paul Thornley (9 - 7) to set up the A side finals. In the match for the hot seat, Bob jumped out to early lead and made it to hill very quickly. Jody was unfazed and fought his way back from an 8 - 3 deficit, winning the next five racks to tie the match at 8's. Jody came up empty on his break, leaving Bob a clear shot at the one and took advantage by running out to win the match 9 - 8, his second hill-hill victory in a row.

On the B side, Paul Thornley defeated Al Lougheed (7 - 5), and DJ McGinley (7 - 5) to set up a rematch with Jody. Paul took advantage of some favorable rolls early in the B side final match and built an insurmountable lead, defeating Jody (7 - 0).

As always at the Showdown event, the final match was one extended race to 11. Paul jumped out to an early 5 - 2 lead, but Bob stayed focused and took down 9 of the final 11 games to win the match 11 - 7.
