Atwell takes Backstreets Pechauer Win

Glenn Atwell survived a late surge by JJ Cain to win the Pechauer West Coast Tour Stop at Backstreet Billiards in Boise, ID.

Usually not one of the top drawing stops on tour, this event drew an excellent field of 41 players to compete for the $1000 first prize. Glenn Atwell took the hot-seat on Sunday with a dominating 9-4 win over Tinsley Johnson.

Johnson went to the one-loss side where one of the players he had sent there earlier in the event was waiting with a little payback in mind. JJ Cain lost his last match of the day on Saturday to Johnson 9-2 and started Sunday play on the left side of the board. Five match wins later, Johnson had his chance for revenge. The rematch between Johnson and Cain went to the wire with Cain pulling out the 9-8 victory.

The final match between Atwell and Cain looking to be a cakewalk for Atwell as he cruised to a quick 8-2 win, but an uncharacteristic miss by Atwell allowed Cain back into the match and he trimmed the lead to 9-5 before Atwell regained control and took the 13-6 win.

Atwell pocketed $1000 for first while Cain settled for $600 in second place prize money. Johnson and room owner Doug Berest filled out the top four spots.
