Kang beats McCready for Falcon Tour win

Amar Kang

Keith McCready and Amar Kang have developed quite a rivalry on the Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour this season, and this weekend at Fast Eddie's Billiard Café in Alexandria VA was more of the same.

Three of the five events this season have been won by either Kang or McCready and they faced off against each other three times this season already.

It looked like it would be a McCready/Kang matchup for the hot seat, with both players undefeated heading into play on Sunday. That matchup was delayed when Chris Loar handed McCready a 9-5 loss in their match first thing Sunday morning. Kang went on to defeat Loar 9-5 for the hot seat.

On the one-loss side, McCready defeated Nick Mannino and then got a second shot at Loar. He did not waste that second chance, as he rolled to a 7-1 victory.

After dismissing Loar from the event, McCready would have to defeat Kang twice in the finals for the tournament win. This would be a rematch of the finals from last month at First Break Cafe in Sterling VA, where Kang won the first set but lost the last set to McCready.

McCready scored a 9-5 win in the first set to force a second and deciding set. This final set was all Kang though, as he rolled to a 9-2 win.

Kang collected $1100 for the win, while McCready settled for $700 in second place prize money. Loar and Mannino filled out the top four spots.

The ladies division featured 22 players and Sueyen Rhee going undefeated for the win. Rhee beat Kathleen Lawless for the hot seat and then beat Malea Haacke 7-4 in the finals for the victory.

Rhee took home $350 for first and Haacke pocketed $230 for second. Lawless and Tina Meraglio filled out the top four spots for the ladies.

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour stop at Great Slates in Cambridge, MD has been cancelled. The next event will be at Champion Billiards Café in Frederick, MD on May 31st - June 1st.
