Cathy Metzinger upsets Huang in Spokane

The Northwest Women's Pool Association held their July tour stop at McQs in Spokane Washington this weekend. With a 2006 WPBA Tour Stop qualifier on the line, the tournament drew new faces from as far away as Calgary Alberta and Minnesota.

Most NWPA stops are dominated by WPBA Touring professional Hsin Huang and this event start out as no exception as Huang took the hot-seat with a 7-1 win over WPBA Semi-Pro Cathy Metzinger from Canada.

Metzinger didn't stay on the left side of the board for long, as she eliminated Martha Hartsell in the semi-finals to earn a rematch with Huang in the finals.

With the win over Hartsell, Metzinger had already locked up the WPBA qualifier (Huang was not eligible due to her touring pro status). With the pressure of the qualifier relieved, Metzinger was able to concentrate on beating Huang; and beat her she did. Metzinger came out of the gate with authority and raced to a 5-2 lead. Huang got back within two at 7-5, but that was as close as she would get as Metzinger won the match 9-6.

Metzinger pocketed $410 in addition to the qualifier, while Huang took home $275. Hartsell and AzBilliards columnist Kerry Impson filled out the top four spots.
