Men’s Rookie of the Year Ronnie Alcano

Ronnie Alcano

Ronnie Alcano has been named the 2002 AzBilliards Men's Rookie of the Year. This award is based on overall performance in events during a players first year of major events.

Ronnie was known by quite a few action players before the rest of us got our first glimpse of his game. In his first 12 months of tournament play, Ronnie earned more than $33,000 in tournament winnings. He also played in an amazing 9 Joss NE Tour event final matches. Alcano burst on to the Joss NE Tour with a second place finish at their first event of the new season at Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, PA. It would take two months of competing on the tour for Alcano to break through and score his first win. From there, he never looked back, as he won five consecutive events and put a stranglehold on the top position on the points list.

Not counting Alcano's domination of the Joss Tour, he scored top seven finishes at the Peninsula 9-Ball Open, US Open and Viking Tour National Championship. Just to prove that 2002 was not fluke, Alcano finished third in the Ten Ball Challenge at Trump Marina this year. That finish was higher than names like Bustamante, Strickland and Reyes.

Ronnie is back home in the Philippines right now, but US tournament players can't rest easy much longer. Ronnie will be back in the states in time for the US Open this year.
