Rodney Morris Stands Tall at Seminole Florida Pro Tour

Rodney Morris

The 2007 season for the Seminole Florida Pro Tour has finally come to an end with the Steve Mizerak Championship held this weekend (November 30th-December 2nd). This $25,000 season finale at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, pulled in some of the best players in the world.

When Saturday evening came to an end, only four players were left to return on Sunday. Corey Deuel and Rodney Morris were matched up on the winner's side of the brackets and Mika Immonen and Louis Ulrich on the one-loss side. Although the winner's side of the bracket had already seen tremendously tough matches throughout the weekend, the hot-seat proved entertaining with Corey Deuel and Rodney Morris at the helm. Morris managed to pluck the win from Deuel 8-5, sending Deuel to earn his trip back to the winner's circle.

On the one loss side Saturday, after his initial loss to Thorsten Hohmann, Mika Immonen started eliminating countless champions that stepped in his way including such names Charlie Bryant, Helena Thornfeldt, Tony Crosby, and Johnny Archer. Then, Immonen had the opportunity for revenge on Hohmann finishing him off with a final score of 8-1. The next stepping stone would unfortunately be Louis Ulrich on Sunday. Although Ulrich had a good set, Immonen controlled the end result with an 8-5 concluding score, sending Ulrich home in fourth place and moving on into the semi-finals against Deuel.

In the semis, the final score read 8-5 as Deuel turned the tables on Immonen and stopped him in his tracks. The final round proved to be a tight race between Morris and Deuel as it was the second time in the day they had met. However, it would be Deuel that made the event ending mistake when he hung a nine ball (playing ten ball) that would have put him on the hill. Instead of reaching the hill, Deuel would have to settle for second place after a 9-7 loss.
